Haiku

A haiku is a poem that inclues a first line of five syllables, a second line of seven syllables, and a third line of five syllables. The challenge is to say something worth saying in seventeen syllables.

Joy, Metta, Giving (five syllables)

Precepts, Chant, Recite, Refuge (seven syllables)

Sutra, Yaza, Teach. (five syllables)

Memorizing this haiku helps us remember the ten steps of the How To Practice Zen course. The first two lines summarize the morning practice and the third line summarizes the evening practice.
